Bargains Bargains Bargains

Hey All,

My bud Carl sent me over this information and I thought I'd share. If you want to buy anything from furniture, to clothing to electronics check out this place first http://consolidatedsalvage.com/

It's like buying off the back of a truck, without having to look for that truck!

Example bargains:
8GB iPod Touch - $180
6 person dining table (expandable to 8) - $80
80GB PS3 - $250

The products are changing all the time, meaning you will not have any idea what you're going to find. But that's the fun!

Happy hunting.

For Dan RE: Laptop

This one is for you Dan!

After some thought, I've decided that a netbook is something that you're not going to want long term. Sure a netbook is great if you're travelling but really what are you going to do more, work on lesson plans or travel? Yeah, that's what I thought too.

Therefore, I've looked at computers that meet the portability criteria because that's still important, and i've also looked at longevity and bang for the buck.

After some searching i've narrowed down your laptop choices to the following 3, in order of preference:

1. Acer Aspire AS3810-4630 (13 inch) or Acer Aspire AS4810TZ-4129 (14 inch)
- easily bought at Best Buy or FS
- Weighs only 3.5 lbs / 4.2 lbs
- Take note that the 13inch version does not have a DVD drive, the 14 inch does however.
- Has a battery life than can last up to 9 hours (via a very easy simple button on the computer)
- It doesn't have built in bluetooth, but meh you'll survive
- $749.99 - $799.99

2. Dell Studio 14Z
- Comes in pretty colours :) (May I recommend hot pink?)
- It's a Dell so it's reliable
- Weighs only 4.3 lbs
- Easily Customizable
- Starts @ $799

3. Dell Inspiron 13
- Same as above, but no pretty colours only comes in a very nice masculine blue
- Weighs only 4.9 lbs
- Price starts at $699 for the base model (which I think is fine for you)

I hope you like these choices. If not, this gives you a good start in finding that perfect traveling companion (other than Caroline of course).

HDMI Receivers

Alright, this isn't really a deal, but I'm pretty sure no one really knows this one.

Everyone has been told that HDMI is great because it provides digital video and sound all in one convenient cable, but did you know that just because a receiving has an HDMI input doesn't mean that you'll get both digital video and audio?!  I bet you didn't!

Be careful.  The receivers do not indicate whether they are capable of carrying sound through the HDMI input.  You'll have to research or trust your audio/video sales man.

Rule of thumb, if it's under $400 it probably won't do what you want it to do.

MacBook deals for students

If you know anyone going back to school Mac is giving a free 8 GB iPod touch with the purchase of a computer.

Also - Apple appears to be selling their notebooks about $100 less than FS.  Future will beat the price and also give the free iPod touch.

Going to FS or Best Buy actually works out better because you get the iPod touch right away, and don't get dinged for the taxes.  If you go to apple directly you have to pay for the iPod touch, and then get a rebate coupon...which means you end up paying the taxes.

Oh yeah, and FS didn't ask for any proof that I was a student.

PS3 Specials

Okay, so when I decided that I was going back to school I promised Martin that he could buy a new gaming computer. This was my way of saying "Sorry, I'll never be home....entertain yourself with videos games instead". So, we bought a PS3 that way I could at least enjoy Planet Earth in Blu-ray (which is awesome btw)

A few good deals going on right now:

1. Best Buy - $399, 80GB system + Ratchet and Clank + Socom Confrontation with bluetooth headset

2. Dell.ca - $499, 160 GB system + Uncharted Drake's Fortune ... compare that to $519 @ Best Buy .... yeah it's only $20...but hey I'm not rich and I like saving an extra $20

3. Dell.ca - $69.99, DualShock 3 Controller, Blu-Ray Remote and HDMI Cable ... again considering that a controller is $54.99, and the remote is $24.99 this is a good deal if you don't have this crap already.

What this is about

So. I've heard the cries. Everyone being scared that they won't know what deals are out there, or what's the next greatest thing to buy.

Have no fear! I'm a shopping addict and a deal hunter, and I'm always going to be this way whether I'm in Toronto, Montreal, or somewhere else.

I will be posting my greatest finds and taking questions from everyone in regards to my opinion on what to buy. I'll probably even post some rants since I was surprised to hear that ppl were going to miss my rants.

I hope I can fill the little void that I'm leaving with this blog my dear friends :)
